Process Instructions

Instructions tell people how to perform a process. Processes are common and instructions are necessary to teach people how to do them correctly. For example, you may have to tell new camera owners how to operate the camera, or you may have to create a user manual for software, computer, and personal electronics owners on how to operate the product satisfactorily. You may have to instruct the public on safety precautions when operating a power saw.

Each example points to the importance of providing well-written instructions to accompany a wide variety of products. If operating instructions are unclear, the product owner may fail to operate it correctly, form an unfavorable opinion of the product, and will not buy from the manufacturer in future. If the software manual is disorganized or incomplete, software users will become frustrated at the lack of necessary support and will look elsewhere for software next time. If the safety precautions for the power saw are ambiguous, someone could be injured. The quality of process instructions affect customer satisfaction, and as a result, the perceived value of products and services.
